Symptoms:
- When viewing a HTML email that includes pictures, Outlook crashes.
- Hitting CTRL+ALT+DEL to log into a system causes it to go to a black screen.
- The display blinks or goes black when using a touch screen monitor
Resolution:
The problem is related to an update on 11/11/2015 from Microsoft: Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3097877)
- Log into the computer using an administrative account.
- Open Windows Update and View Update History
- Click on Installed Updates
- Search for: KB3097877
- Uninstall the update, and restart the computer.
If you are not able to log into the computer you can try the following steps:
- Use a working computer to remote connect to the system with the issues.
- If a touch screen monitor is connected, disconnect the USB for the touchscreen. This should resolve the black screen at login so you can log in.
- If the touchscreen is built in, try to disable it through BIOS, which should then allow you to log into Windows to remove the update.
- If a remote connection will not get you connected, boot the computer into the Windows Recovery Environment and restore the system to an earlier point.
